The former Meyer Brothers Dairy site has been an historic site integral to downtown Wayzata, one with a real history to proudly now call home.

Albert Roskam of Ostfriesland Germany changed his name to Frederick Wilhelm Meyer when he immigrated to America. He married Clara Kaetterhenry in 1901. With the help of their seven children, they raised Guernsey cows known for their high quality milk and butterfat content.

Their son, Clifford Homer Meyer, studied Dairy Science at the University of Minnesota where he met Delora Meiner. They married in 1929. After completing a Master’s degree in Dairy Science at Iowa State University, Cliff and Delora moved around the Midwest learning the dairy business until Cliff’s brothers, Ted and Herb, convinced them to come home and start a dairy business in the Wayzata area.

In the early days, Cliff ran the pasteurizing and bottling side of the business, Ted and Herb delivered the milk to the customers, and younger brother Bob milked the cows in Maple Plain.

Over the years, Meyer Bros. Dairy grew and modernized. They moved to 105 Lake Street in 1941. Meyer Bros. Dairy became a successful business with three branches; the largest was delivering half pints to local Twin Cities schools. Many locals loved the house-to-house delivery service and the onsite dairy/grocery store where Bob Meyer was a familiar face to many in Wayzata. Cliff’s sons Don, Dick and Fred then became the next generation of Meyer Brothers on Lake Street.

The Meyer Bros. Dairy slogan was “Your Lake Minnetonka Neighbor;” a fitting phrase that now embodies the essence of the Meyer Place community, where you can become a neighbor!
