A Lake Effect Project is coming to Wayzata! The Lake Effect is a project to restore the shoreline alongside Lake Minnetonka’s lakefront in downtown Wayzata. This project is an initiative by the City of Wayzata to build and adjoin public park space and amenities to reconnect residents and Wayzata MN condos homebuyers to the lakefront.

In March 2018, the Wayzata City Council approved a contract with Civitas, a Denver-based urban design and landscape architecture firm, to move forward with the design of implementation plans and construction documents for the project. In November 2018, the Wayzata City Council approved Phase 1 of the design for Lake Street East after residents expressed concerns about certain parts of the initially approved project. If funds are secured, construction should begin this month. Phase 1 of the Lake Effect project includes removing the center lane, having a separate bike and pedestrian trails, widening sidewalks and drive lanes, an ecological restoration of the lake edge, an eco-park with a fishing pier and an environmental education center. Phase 2, which is set to begin construction in 2020, will include a lakeside boardwalk, and parts of a park. Not only will there be wonderful benefits for residents and visitors, but this project will also restore the lakefront and improve the flow and quality of rainwater.
